Stephen Rowell — Experienced Ullswater Wedding Photographer

I’m Stephen Rowell, a Cumbria-based wedding photographer with over 20 years’ experience across the Lake District. I’ve photographed weddings beside Ullswater, including at Inn on the Lake in Glenridding, combining natural documentary photography with relaxed portraits that capture the lake and surrounding fells.

Knowing the setting helps me plan realistic timings, adapt to changing weather and make the most of the light. You’ll have gentle guidance when you need it and plenty of time with your guests, while I capture the people, scenery and moments that make your wedding yours.

Wedding Photographs That Capture the Feeling of Ullswater

The lake and surrounding fells are part of what makes getting married here special. I use that scenery to create photographs with a real sense of place, alongside the expressions, conversations and celebrations happening around you.

Your gallery will include those wider lakeside portraits, but also the moments that bring you back to the day: a reassuring hand before the ceremony, a speech that has everyone laughing and your friends joining you on the dance floor.

Relaxed Couple Portraits Beside Ullswater

You don’t need to arrive knowing how to stand or what to do with your hands. I’ll help you settle into the photographs with simple guidance and a short walk together.

We’ll choose locations that suit the light and your plans, using the shoreline and views where they work best. A few minutes away can give you beautiful portraits and a little time together before returning to your guests.

Planning Your Ullswater Wedding

Good planning gives your photographs room to happen naturally. Before the wedding, we’ll talk through your ceremony time, family groups and the moments you most want captured.

I’ll help you allow realistic time for photographs around your venue and celebrations. If the light changes later in the day, we can take another short opportunity for portraits. Everything is planned around your priorities and how you want to spend your wedding.

Beautiful Wedding Photographs in Changing Lake District Weather

Sunshine, soft cloud and rain each bring a different atmosphere to Ullswater. We’ll consider suitable indoor and sheltered options beforehand, then adapt to the conditions on the day.

Window light can work beautifully for quieter portraits, while a break in the weather may give us time beside the lake. If you’re happy to head outside, we’ll make the most of the opportunity while keeping you comfortable.
