Low Wood Bay Wedding Photographer
Lake District Wedding Photographer – Stephen Rowell
I'm Stephen Rowell, a Lake District and Cumbria wedding photographer specialising in natural, relaxed and timeless wedding photography. With over 20 years of experience and extensive knowledge of wedding venues across the Lake District and Cumbria, I capture genuine moments and beautiful portraits that tell the story of your wedding day naturally and authentically.
Weddings at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is one of the Lake District's most sought-after wedding venues, perfectly positioned on the shores of Lake Windermere with panoramic views across England's largest lake. Combining contemporary luxury with breathtaking natural scenery, it's an ideal venue for couples looking to celebrate in a relaxed yet elegant setting.
One of the venue's greatest strengths is its versatility. Whether you're planning an intimate wedding with close family or a larger celebration, Low Wood Bay offers beautifully designed ceremony spaces, stylish reception rooms and lakeside gardens that provide a seamless flow throughout the day. The combination of luxury accommodation, outstanding hospitality and spectacular scenery means your guests can relax and enjoy everything the Lake District has to offer without leaving the venue.
From a photographer's perspective, Low Wood Bay offers an incredible variety of backdrops within a short walk, allowing you to enjoy your wedding day while creating a diverse collection of natural, timeless photographs without spending hours away from your guests.
My Experience Photographing Weddings at Low Wood Bay
After more than 20 years photographing weddings throughout Cumbria and the Lake District, I've learnt that every venue has its own character, lighting and rhythm. Low Wood Bay is no exception. Its lakeside setting, changing mountain light and beautifully maintained grounds create opportunities for stunning photographs throughout every season.
My approach is always calm, unobtrusive and documentary-led. Rather than directing every moment, I quietly capture genuine laughter, emotion and the atmosphere of your day while providing relaxed guidance during portraits and family photographs. Knowing when and where the light is at its best allows me to create beautiful images naturally, without interrupting the flow of your wedding.
Whether it's a bright summer afternoon, dramatic autumn skies or a cosy winter celebration overlooking Lake Windermere, my aim is always the same: to tell the complete story of your wedding in a way that feels authentic, timeless and unmistakably yours.
My Favourite Photography Locations Around Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa
One of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings at Low Wood Bay is the incredible variety of locations available without leaving the venue. Every area offers a different perspective, allowing couples to enjoy a diverse collection of photographs while spending most of their day with family and friends.
The Lakeside Jetty
The private jetty is one of the most recognisable locations at Low Wood Bay. Surrounded by panoramic views across Lake Windermere, it's perfect for timeless portraits that showcase the beauty of the Lake District. Early evening is particularly special when the lake becomes calmer and the surrounding fells begin to soften in the golden light.
The Shoreline
The shoreline offers a more natural feel, with the lake gently meeting the edge of the grounds. This area works beautifully for relaxed portraits and candid moments, especially when the reflections across Windermere create depth and atmosphere in your
photographs.
The Gardens and Terrace
The landscaped gardens and terrace are ideal during your drinks reception. Guests can mingle while enjoying spectacular lake views, allowing me to capture genuine interactions alongside relaxed portraits without taking you away from the celebrations for long.
The Contemporary Hotel Interiors
Low Wood Bay isn't just an outdoor venue. Large windows, stylish interiors and elegant reception rooms create beautiful opportunities throughout the day, especially during winter weddings or when the Lake District weather becomes unpredictable.
Golden Hour Over Lake Windermere
If your timetable allows, I always recommend stepping outside for a short golden-hour session before sunset. The warm evening light reflecting across Lake Windermere creates a softer, more romantic atmosphere that often produces some of the most striking photographs of the day.
